meet the family

me- i am the mommy, and wouldn’t give it up for anything! my kids are my everything, and as much as i hate being pregnant, i am thrilled to give my girls another sibling. i am a birth junkie, and could probably deliver your baby with no problems. lactivist and “crazy hippie mom” have also been used to describe me.  i also like learning handcrafts- i knit, i crochet, i used to cross-stitch, i sew, and i’m currently looking for a class on tatting (dying form of lace making, not tattoos!). when pregnancy is not sucking my will to live, i bake my own bread and generally try to feed my family healthy, fresh food. right now, we are a frozen-fish-stick family though.

husband seris- dale and i met in january of 2005 through a mutual friend. six months later, i got knocked up. we got engaged in july of ‘06 and were married in a tiny, quiet ceremony on 5 may 2007. he is a great guy, he puts up with all my pregnant emotional bs without too much complaint, even the inexplicable meltdown that seems to happen most nights right before dinner, where no matter what he’s doing it’s the wrong thing and i start screaming for no reason. i love him more than he knows.

daughter noodle- my kids voted to have super-secret web names, so my eldest will be known as noodle. noodle is five, she was born 5 sep 2002, and i’m pretty sure she has a split personality! lol. some days she is stubborn and headstrong and hates the world and everyone in it, but mostly she is a super helper kid and likes to help out around the house, including doing the dishes and attempting to vacuum. she is not in school yet, but taught herself to write her own name, first last and middle, and claims to have taught herself to tie her own shoes, but i think her father had a hand in that. either way, she’s a super smart kid and surprises me every day with something she has learned from being my kid and paying attention.

daughter bean- has recently started calling herself “poky beanie”, i’m not quite sure why. bean is almost two, she was born 5 march 2006. she got a serious infection from the hospital when she was born (can you say “iatrogenic infection”? means the doctor gave it to her. it was entirely preventable.) and spent 9 days in the nicu on some of the strongest antibiotics known to man. she is certainly a momma’s girl and it is a privilege for most other people to get cuddles from her, even her daddy. she loves her sister and her “nini”. yes, she is still breastfeeding, and no, i’m not weaning anytime soon.

mystery baby jelly- the girls have dubbed the baby “jelly”. i didn’t know why for several weeks, then noodle informed me of their reasoning: “one of the squishy eggs in your belly wasn’t a people egg, mom, it was a jellyfish egg. that’s why you feel so sick! ’cause you’re having a jellyfish baby!” human or otherwise, jelly is due to make his/her appearance sometime in july. i am seeing a certified professional midwife, and we are planning a home birth. questions? great! i’m happy to answer any question that are phrased respectfully. you could also read this page for faq’s on home birth. i would like to mention that the cesarean rate is actually higher now than quoted in this article, and is still climbing.

others likely to be mentioned rather frequently-aunt ba and do dew, my sister and her husband. gammy and papa, my parents. mary jane, my baby sister. aunt enin, my bff. gam pason, my mil. i also have two other sisters, two brothers, and two sisters-in-law, but none of them have cool super-secret web names yet, so i’m not talking about them yet.
