a child’s prayer
March 30, 2008
when we sat down to dinner tonight, we asked the girls to fold their arms to say a blessing on the food. bean did and immediately launched into her own prayer, which went something like this: “hea’nly fader, tank you for bessing, (mumble mumble mumble) a-em!” aw!
the weather is confused…

it apparently did not get the memo that it is now spring, almost april! ladies and gentlemen, we have snow on the ground this morning. argh. i had to turn my heat on for the first time in two weeks.
in other news, i now have a pair of tiny baby socks! woohoo!
i knit a sock!
March 24, 2008
i figured out where i was screwing up, i fixed it, and now i have one little baby sock to match the varigated hats i love (see ‘i hate spiderwebs’)! and i’m so freakin’ proud of myself i just have to share! this whole not-having-a-camera thing really blows. i’d love to post a pic, but alas…
happy update to yesterday’s sad post
March 24, 2008
the woman whose labor was slowed: she and her doctors apparently changed their minds about allowing her to deliver, and long story short…she is still pregnant! woohoo! she is however still hospitalized (obviously), with two small kids at home and no husband/boyfriend/partner to pick up slack at home. she has family help though, which is great.
anyway, just wanted to say something happy after the last post.
oh, something else happy…apparently bean only likes the ears off of marshmallow bunnies…that’s all she ate, she gave the rest to noodle and i. silly girl!
sad easter

i belong to two online mommy communities, and i love them. it has not been a good week in my due date clubs though! (for those who are clueless like my hubby, that means all these women are due in july, just like me) thursday, a woman on one site delivered a stillborn baby girl. on the other site, one mom had her water break late friday night. they were half expecting this, and were able to slow her labor pattern and start betamethazone to speed maturation of the baby’s lungs. they were planning to hold her off until midnight last night, then let her deliver. no news since about 10pm. then, another woman on that site delivered a baby boy-alive- yesterday, but because of his extreme prematurity (only 22 weeks gestation) she and her husband decided not to attempt resuscitation and he died very shortly after his birth.
as if that’s not enough, i learned this morning that a friend delivered her baby still last week at full term.
i’m just heartbroken for all these mommas i know. please keep them in your prayers, or send healing thoughts to them and their families.
i hate spiderwebs!…
March 22, 2008
but the children who spent the entire morning telling me this are now crouched under my kitchen table saying, “oh, spiderwebs are so pretty! look mom! they’re millions of tiny threads! how do the spiders do that?” my explanation of, “well, spiders have special organs called ’spinnerettes’ inside their bodies” is not sufficient for them. “but how do spinners ettes make silk mom?” jeez, kid, i don’t know! i also do not want to look up spiders online, because they creep me out. i only like cute cartoon spiders named sydney and robert! they are brother spiders on our favorite cartoon, charlie and lola. charlie and lola are cute little british kids who talk occasionally about their mum and dad, but there is no actual evidence that they actually have parents. however, charlie is a superawesome big brother who has a million ideas for getting his 5 year old sister to cooperate without tantrums or power struggles. he is the kind of parent i want to be!
in other news, for unknown reasons, i decided that knitting tiny little socks for baby jelly would be a good idea. oh yeah- it was because i am nesting and feeling an uncontrollable urge to prepare for the arrival of this baby, even though s/he isn’t due for another 18 weeks and 5 days. so i went through my big rubbermaid tub of crafty supplies and pulled out all my gender neutral yarn and said, “what do babies need that i could make with this?” the answer? baby hats! and little socks to match! well, the hats were pretty easy, even without a pattern, and i whipped up 8 of them in just a couple of days. i love the multicolor ones- a sweet baby pastel varigated yarn. too bad my apparently color-impaired husband can’t see the striping…and thinks they are solid pink! weird, there isn’t actually any pink at all (blue, lavender, yellow and green), not to mention that the rest of us get a sort of green vibe when we just glance at it. anyway, after such an abundance of hats, i thought i would move on to something else. and socks seemed logical. so i asked around for a very simple sock pattern, and came up with one called ‘basic baby socks’. sounds good, right? well, tiny sock needles are tough to work with, and after creating the heel flap, i’m lost. 9+7 does NOT equal 18 in my universe, and i can’t figure out where the other two stitches are supposed to come from! gah! perhaps i should have stuck with hats and diaper covers, or at least big-people socks…as was suggested when i asked for baby sock patterns. oh well, my grandma said if i brought it over tomorrow before dinner, she’d see if she could decipher the pattern for me. or at least tell me where i screwed up!

there was a thing with our internet when we moved, and it took this long to get it all worked out. i’m going to pretend nothing happened and write the posts i would have written had there not been a two week lack of internet (holy crap you should have seen my e-mail inbox!). starting with this post about our new place!
we like it! it has an actual dining area with hard flooring, instead of a light fixture in one corner of the living room. i love that. there is space in the kitchen to store a whole week’s worth of food, AND all my dishes, also fun and new to us! the freezer works properly! the fridge is newer and HUGE! the oven has a clock! and a timer! and a light (very nice for little helpers)! there are more windows, with better light- i never have to turn on the lights during the day, just open the blinds! the thermostat is digital! the kids would rather sleep in the living room than their bedroom though…not quite sure what that’s about, but ok.
so that’s about it. the phone jack is in an awkward place, necessitating the stringing of internet cords across a doorway, through the living room AND the dining room before plugging into the computer, but it works! we’re about half unpacked. none of that unpacking has uncovered the whereabouts of my keys, but since i’m not driving, it’s ok-ish…really irritating though. i’m not even sure how they went missing…they were there and then they weren’t. hm.
next post…whatever it was that project mommy tagged me with. i don’t remember. but i’ll do that later today, i promise.
in limbo
March 1, 2008
so we moved out of our old apartment yesterday. but due to the previous tenan t not vacating in a timely manner, we don’t have keys to the new place yet. all our stuff is being housed in our new landlord’s garage while we wait for her to vacate and the carpets to dry after being cleaned.
in all fairness, it isn’t entirely said previous tenants fault. her rental fell through and she didn’t have anywhere else to go. that’s all been worked out now though. yay! we all have a place to live, we’re just waiting for the wrinkles to be ironed out.
update: husband just got off the phone with landlord. we are on our way to go get the keys!
